Patti Quintero + Uma Mother's experience with HANAH

Patti Quintero is the founder of UMA MOTHER, and has taught yoga and meditation in the Los Angeles area for the last two decades. As a mother of two and a birth doula, Patti works to educate, empower and support mothers throughout their journey from giving birth into motherhood. Her company UMA, which means Mother of the Universe and Goddess of light, offers classes, workshops, and teacher trainings centered around yoga, movement, meditation, and conscious activism. Patti’s passion extends into her work with her non-profit project SoulShine Colombia, which was her hometown prior to moving to LA, as well as other non-profit organizations which aim to break the cycle of poverty amongst women and provide maternal health care during and after pregnancy.

Patti holds a masters degree in education from the University of Miami, and is also one of the senior teachers at YogaWorks in Santa Monica, California. Her online classes are available on myyogworks.com in both English and Spanish for all levels. She is currently writing a book and getting ready to lead her AVENTURA retreat from November 3-9 in Tulum, Mexico.

Morning magic

Juggling the roles of mama, yoga teacher, birth doula, and business owner demands a lot of proper refueling and discipline. Before having two children and launching UMA MOTHER, I dedicated a lot more time to my practice and proper nourishment. But in the last two years as I hopped behind the entrepreneur wheel, I began to notice that in juggling these many roles and responsibilities my “me” time had dwindled significantly. The hours behind the computer and on the phone had increased, and my body and mind were definitely not happy.

As a teacher of mindfulness and having an organization that teaches the importance of mindful living for mothers, I found myself in a dire need of all that I teach and preach…giving back to myself so that I could lead a more balanced, fulfilled life.

What better way to build an authentic platform than to live the changes yourself? Some of these changes include being more disciplined about scheduling exclusive time for my own yoga practice, learning to say ‘no’ to others in order to conserve my energy and dedicate time to feeding my soul, and adding the best nutritional supplements to help fuel my body and mind.

HANAH ONE ingredients

Diet matters too

HANAH is a favorite! HANAH ONE is an Ayurvedic superfood supplement made from 30 wild-harvested botanicals in a base of Keralan mountain honey, artisanal ghee, and sesame oil. Every morning after my warm water, lemon and vinegar drink I take one large tablespoon of HANAH ONE before my breakfast. Since I've been taking this supplement, I feel more of a steady balance of energy and mental clarity. I have also found it helps balance my mood during the premenstrual period. I now love to take HANAH ONE with me when I am attending long births as an energy boost and also take it after a strong sweaty practice or workout.

I love recommending HANAH ONE to the new moms I work with who are dealing with sleep deprivation and postpartum healing, as well as women approaching their peri-menopausal years. I’m grateful for all these years of practice that have taught me to listen carefully when my body speaks up, and to cherish that feeling of well being from the inside out. It is my constant GPS when I feel derailed and need to get back on track.

Some of the active ingredients that I’m most excited about in HANAH ONE include:

  1. Turmeric: an excellent anti-inflammatory
  2. Ashwagandha: great for the immune system, stress and memory
  3. Mung bean: digestive aid and antioxidant
  4. Gotu kola: super brain tonic
