Jimmy Chin: A simplified approach to long-term fitness

Simplicity and consistency with intention

By Jimmy Chin

People often ask me how I stay fit, focused and healthy while juggling family life, being a professional athlete, being a filmmaker and photographer, and as a result having an extremely heavy travel schedule. Historically I spent a lot more time in one place so could lock in a normal routine and rhythm. And as a result, could spend more time in the mountains training; mainly running, climbing and skiing.

Things have certainly changed so I don’t get the four or five big climbing days a week like when I lived out of my car in Yosemite. Over the years I’ve gotten much busier, but even so I’ve still managed to keep pace in the mountains and on expeditions. The not-so-secret secret is that I continue to do something active every day, whether that is just sit ups, push ups and some yoga in my hotel room, or skiing one of the peaks in the Tetons when I am home. Mainly, for me, it’s about consistency. As I’ve heard so many times, it’s not about getting into shape, it’s about never getting out of shape. When I have a big climbing or skiing objective or expedition lined up, I ramp up the training to ensure I’m properly prepared. It’s the baseline training though that allows me to be able to quickly get into big mountain and/or expedition shape.

Besides staying fit, I’m also conscious of taking good care of my health on the road, expeditions, etc. A lot of travel, changing time zones and an inconsistent diet can be rough on your body. I’ve tried a lot of supplements and wellness formulas over the last 10 years to stay healthy. I’m always on the lookout for the best possible natural products that will sustain my health and well-being. In short, I want to know I am getting the highest quality ingredients available and I don’t want to second guess what I’m putting in my body.

After trying HANAH ONE and researching the quality as well as the thoughtfulness and ethos behind the brand, I knew I had found exactly what I was looking for. I became friends with the founder Joel Einhorn. He did a deep dive into the ingredients with me, educating me on the sourcing and production, and the importance of terroir and the Ayurvedic agricultural methods. I could tell from his passion that they were focused on quality and delivering a product that worked. In the end I learned that not all ingredients are created equal. Herbs are like wine. The quality of the soil matters. Where the herbs are grown, how they are planted as well as when and how they are harvested is incredibly important.

HANAH ONE is the single product I take every day whether for a long day in the office or on a big mountain day... I feel the results; improved focus, energy, stamina and recovery. Not to mention I haven’t been sick once in the last two years, which is a small miracle given my work and travel schedule.

In the end, I don’t think it’s too complicated to stay fit and healthy, but it does take intention and discipline. Keep it simple. One hour a day of activity and feed your body the best ingredients and herbal supplements you can find. These two basic things will go a long way for your health and happiness.
