Summertime with HANAH Hero and pro snowboarder Alex Yoder and his dog Lucy

In memory of Lucy, 2003-2019

HANAH Hero Alex Yoder is a professional snowboarder, filmmaker and writer with a deep passion for nature, healthy living and his beloved dog Lucy, his loyal sidekick for the last 15 years. HANAH caught up with Alex in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, while he was packing for the summer in Oregon, making lunch from his vegetable garden and spending the day doing some of Lucy’s favorite things.

Alex is a true health and environmental advocate, and his interest in wellness runs deep.

“At some point in my teens, I started to question what food I put in my body. I started being more inquisitive about ingredients and more decisive about what, when and where I'd eat. That was around the same time ‘superfoods’ and health food culture was bubbling into popular culture so I've sort of grown up being exposed to all of these health food crazes. Most of them are marketing and don't live up to their promises, he says. I realized HANAH ONE actually does live up to its benefits when I was on an 11-day glacier camping and splitboarding trip in Alaska's Tordrillo range. Every morning we'd be up at 4:00 a.m., eat a quick breakfast and start hiking in the dark hoping to get beautiful sunrise photos and inevitably we’d stay out for the whole day, hiking and shooting. After about a week of this I was exhausted. My steps were becoming more labored and less efficient. I remembered I'd packed this jar of "healthy mud" that Willie McMillon gave me. I added into in my oats one morning and started hiking, again. About a half hour into the hike I started to feel good again – I didn’t take flight like a superhero – just better. My thoughts were clear, I was climbing efficiently and I could keep on without taking as many breaks.” – HANAH Hero Alex Yoder

Inspired by Gentemstick snowboard and snowsurf shaper, rider and HANAH Hero Taro Tamai, Alex’s snowboarding style is a more subtle, spiritual approach to the sport, focused on finding the cleanest line down the mountain and mastering the core essence of riding.

“Constant snowboard trips and eating well don't exactly go hand in hand. It's easy to find food, but it can be hard to find real nutrition. Having HANAH ONE as part of my daily nutrition on my travels has really helped me stay on top of my health and consistently energized,” Alex says.

Rituals is an exclusive HANAH video series that explores the routines of some of the world’s most inspiring athletes, adventurers and entrepreneurs.
